Said El Shamieh: VEGFA Genetic Variants and Bleeding Risk During Warfarin Therapy

Said El Shamieh, Associate Editor at BMC Medical Genomics (Springer Nature) and Frontiers in Bioscience-Landmark, Professor at Beirut Arab University, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Medicine, adding:

VEGFA and Warfarin PGx

Here, we asked whether genetic variants in VEGFA, a gene involved in vascular integrity and endothelial repair, might contribute to bleeding risk during warfarin therapy.

In a cohort of Saudi patients, significant associations were found between VEGFA genotypes and bleeding. Though exploratory and requiring validation in larger cohorts, these results suggest that bleeding susceptibility during anticoagulation may involve additional pathways beyond the canonical ones.
