Swapnil Pawar: Why Aren’t We Using Cryopreserved Platelets Everywhere Yet?
Swapnil Pawar, Director at Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD), shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Michael C. Reade et al., published in JAMA, adding:
”Cryopreserved platelets can be stored for two years.
Conventional platelets last five to seven days.
So why aren’t we using frozen platelets everywhere?
In this week’s eCritCare episode, Michael Reade, talks about the CLIP-II trial published in JAMA, which compared cryopreserved and liquid-stored platelets in 202 bleeding cardiac surgical patients across 11 Australian hospitals.”
