Emilya Huseynova: Excited to Share That My Work On Blood Safety Monitoring Has Just Been Published by Transfusion
Emilya Huseynova, Principal Scientist in Clinical Research at The American Red Cross, shared on LinkedIn:
”I am excited to share that my work on blood safety monitoring has just been published by Transfusion.
This research became possible because of the hard work of my science team at the Transfusion Safety and Surveillance, American Red Cross and our collaborators at Vitalant, OneBlood, New York Blood Center, and the FDA.
Our continuous national monitoring of the safety of blood donations shows that expanded donor eligibility due to updated FDA guidance from 12-month deferral to 3-month deferral for certain high-risk behaviors has not negatively impacted the prevalence of the major transfusion-transmissible infections in the US blood.
We continue our critical work to gather data and to evaluate the newest updates to donor deferral policy by FDA based on individualized donor assessment that became effective in 2023, to ensure the safety of our blood donations for our transfusion patients.
You can read more about our work here.”
