Joana Williams About Blood Type and Why is it Important
Joana Williams shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Do you know your blood type?
Most people do — but few know what it really means.
Let’s decode it together
There are two main blood group systems:
- The ABO system
- The Rh system
To understand these, we need to know a bit more about antigens and antibodies.
So…
Your blood has red blood cells that carry oxygen.
On the surface of these cells are antigens. Think of antigens as tiny ID cards that help your body identify which cells belong to you.
If antigens are the ID cards, antibodies are your body’s security guards, always on patrol, checking every “ID card” they find.
When an antibody spots a cell with an unfamiliar or fake ID (an antigen that doesn’t belong to you) your antibody attacks that unfamiliar antigen.
That’s your immune system in action, protecting you from anything it doesn’t recognize.
Remember, we’re making science simple, relatable and fun. We shouldn’t have too much to absorb at once.
Stay tuned, same time tomorrow for part 2!
But anyway, lemme know if this is broken down enough. Pls, feel free to leave questions in the comment section or via DM. I’d love to answer them”
