“My Cancer Battle
For more than five years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as an Area Manager within the Brisbane team at ALSPEC. During this time, I have had the opportunity to work alongside some of the most dedicated and talented people in the business. Alspec has become an important part of my life, not only professionally but personally, especially as I navigate my current health challenges. The support I have received from colleagues across the organisation has been invaluable and deeply appreciated.
On 6 August, I visited my doctor for what initially appeared to be a routine issue. However, after a blood test revealed unexpected abnormalities, I was asked to present to the emergency department. Within 24 hours, I received a diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and was admitted to hospital for immediate treatment. The news was devastating for me and my loved ones, and the weeks that followed had been both confronting and life-altering. Over the past three and a half months, the hospital has become my temporary home, made warmer by the care of dedicated medical staff and the constant support of my wife Ebony Setefano, daughters, family, friends, and work colleagues.
While preparing for the planned treatment pathway for AML, I received the additional and unexpected diagnosis of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC). Although this was disheartening, my family and I remain focused and determined. We have processed the news, accepted the challenge, and continued to move forward with strength and commitment to my full recovery.
I am currently undergoing seven weeks of radiation therapy for NPC, after which I will begin a third round of chemotherapy for AML, followed by a bone marrow transplant. There will be good days and difficult days, but my motivation remains unwavering. My family is my source of strength, and the support from my wider community, including my Alspec family, continues to sustain me through this journey.

Throughout my treatment, I require daily blood and platelet transfusions. Lifesaving support provided entirely through the generosity of donors. Before this experience, I seldom considered the vital role blood donation plays. Now, I understand firsthand that these donations save lives.
