EACH Cardiovascular Health Summit 2025: Innovative and Powerful

“In anticipation of the EU Cardiovascular Health Plan being published tomorrow Safe Hearts Plan, I wanted to share how energised I felt last week leaving the EACH Cardiovascular Health Summit 2025 in Brussels.
It was a powerful moment to bring together policymakers, clinicians, patients, researchers and industry around what it will take to reduce Europe’s cardiovascular burden and, crucially, to move from ambition to implementation. Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi underlined both the opportunity of this EU plan and the importance of robust, long-term funding to make it real.
I was especially proud to see the EFPIA high-level panel reinforce a clear message: Member States will need sustained EU support to deliver impact, and screening/health checks must be part of the solution, particularly if we want to tackle inequalities within and across countries. One standout example was the population-wide cardiovascular screening programme implemented in Greece in 2025, showing what’s possible when early detection is delivered at scale. Thank you to the Alternate Minister of Health of Greece Eirini Agapidaki for sharing such valuable insights.
My sincere thanks as well to the rest of our panelists: Prof. Robert Gil for his perspectives on strengthening cardiology care in Poland; Ewa Piasecka Health Attaché at the Permanent Representation of Poland to the EU, for sharing experiences from the Polish national CVH plan; Arlene Wilkie from Stroke Alliance For Europe (SAFE) for keeping the patient experience front and centre and reinforcing the continued focus needed on stroke; Jesús Ponce highlighting the imperative to address inequities across the European landscape; and Borjana Pervan from World Heart Federation for her excellent moderation.
A big thank you to the European Alliance for Cardiovascular Health (EACH) and all partner organisations who made the summit possible. It was also great to connect with EFPIA – European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations and Amgen colleagues in Brussels and celebrate how far we have come, while keeping focus on what comes next: delivery, equity, and investment.
