In a Time of Crisis: Dr. Amanda Rischbieth on Blood Donation, Solidarity, and Saving Lives
Dr Amanda Rischbieth, Harvard Advanced Leadership Advisory Board at Harvard University, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“With my Chair of the National Blood Authority, Australia hat on, I thank the thousands who have stepped up without hesitation.
As of 1pm today, Australian Red Cross Lifeblood service has seen 20,000 appointments booked nationally and many waited up to 5hr to give blood.
So much healing ahead yet we are seeing such unwaivering spirit, love and support for those impacted yesterday at Bondi, in Sydney.
My heartfelt condolences to those who have lost loved ones, those who are injured, and the entire Jewish community in Sydney and beyond.
O negative and O positive blood are always in high demand because they are used in emergency situations when a patient’s blood type is unknown.
Fewer than 7% of the population are O negative so in particular we need O negative donors to donate.
With gratitude to all donors and emergency responders/hospital workers/blood donation teams, and NBA workers side by side with Red Cross in moving blood to where its most needed and fast ramping up donation capability.”
