Nasrin Haghani: How Vitamin K2 Reduces Arterial Plaque Buildup and Promotes Heart Health
Nasrin Haghani, Surgical Lead Technician at Nuvia Dental Implant Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
”Vitamin K2 has been gaining attention for its cardiovascular benefits, particularly in supporting arterial health. Research indicates that taking 90 micrograms daily over a nine-month period slowed plaque buildup in the carotid artery by more than 55 percent. This effect is believed to result from vitamin K2’s ability to activate proteins that help direct calcium away from the arteries and into bones, reducing arterial stiffness and promoting heart health. Healthy calcium metabolism is critical for preventing hardening of the arteries and maintaining efficient blood flow.
Beyond plaque reduction, vitamin K2 supports vascular flexibility and overall cardiovascular resilience. By preventing calcium from depositing in blood vessels, it reduces the risk of atherosclerosis, hypertension, and related complications. The nutrient also works synergistically with vitamin D and magnesium, enhancing calcium regulation and contributing to bone strength while protecting the circulatory system. These dual benefits make vitamin K2 a key player in maintaining long-term heart and bone health simultaneously.
Incorporating vitamin K2 can be done through supplements or K2-rich foods such as natto, certain cheeses, and egg yolks. While it’s not a substitute for a heart-healthy lifestyle, consistent intake alongside proper diet, regular exercise, and stress management may amplify cardiovascular protection. Small, consistent nutritional strategies like this demonstrate how targeted nutrients can influence long-term arterial health and overall vitality.”
