William Aird: When Inducers Make DOACs Fail
William Aird, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, shared a post on X:
“Saw a patient on Tegretol today… a good reminder:
Strong inducers can neutralize DOACs.
Think twice (or switch) if you see:
- Carbamazepine
- Phenytoin
- Rifampin
- Phenobarbital
Not a dose adjustment.
A different anticoagulant.”
