Eve Barys: What’s New – Thrombosis in Immune Thrombocytopenia

Eve Barys, Sr. Strategic Account Executive at Wolters Kluwer Health, shared a post on LinkedIn:

Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is generally associated with bleeding, but individuals with ITP can also develop thrombosis.

A study of ITP documented venous thrombosis in about 4 percent of patients.

Features associated with thrombosis included older age, prior thrombosis, secondary ITP, and use of a thrombopoietin receptor agonist.

Management with anticoagulation is appropriate, and some individuals may require more intensive ITP therapies to raise the platelet count and allow for full anticoagulation.”
