What looks identical under the microscope can be completely different immunologically.
In transfusion medicine, we don’t match blood by appearance — we match it by antigens, antibodies, and clinical context.
- Antigens define identity
- Antibodies create risk
- Compatibility prevents harm
- Precision supports safety
A compatible unit is NOT chosen by blood type alone.
It requires:
- Immunohematology
- Patient history
- Laboratory testing
- Clinical judgment
Blood groups are not just labels – they are the language of safe transfusion.”
