Laird Bruce de Graaf: The Most Compassionate Gift You Can Give
Laird Bruce de Graaf, Owner of Rage Security Pty Limited, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Yesterday at 7:30am, I donated another bag containing 879ml of plasma.
It looks like a bag of piss but is a critical part of what Michael Klim and my little mate Oli from Kew, NSW, need every 6 weeks so that their CIDP treatment keeps them a little stronger for a little longer.
Michael recently launched the Klim Foundation to create advocacy and awareness of CIDP.
They collaborated with Champion in the Championing Life campaign.
The launch had 300 of Michael’s supporters and allies in attendance, but for what he and Oli need there were only 9 of us in that room.
W. Edwards Deming is quoted ‘without data, you are just another person with an opinion’.
I’ll explain, please bear with me.
Only 3 percent of the eligible population donate blood.
This is a piss poor reflection of how we Aussies look after our mates in a crisis.
300 punters in the room.
3 percent are regular blood donors.
Therefore, only 9 blood donors in the room.
The data does not lie, but it does embarrass.
Me, Simmo Braun and his mate, Richard Wilkins son Christian and Michael’s mum, Ewa Klim were part of the donor population there, I didn’t meet the other 4 donors, but the numbers, you have to agree, are shite.
Michael and the other people suffering with CIDP need more of us rolling up a sleeve.
Give some consideration to how you can support the Klim Foundation but I would ask that you consider rolling up a sleeve to give plasma or whole blood.
Money cannot buy it and without a doubt it is the most compassionate gift you can give.”
