Marieke Verweij: Long Term Impact of Pulmonary Embolism in Children and Adolescents
Marieke Verweij, Student MSc at Amsterdam UMC, shared a post on LinkedIn about recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in The Lancet Haematology, adding:
“Excited to share that our multicentre study on post-pulmonary embolism syndrome (PPES) in children and adolescents has been published in The Lancet Haematology.
In this study, we found that a substantial proportion of children continue to experience long-term physical and psychological consequences after pulmonary embolism.
These findings highlight the importance of comprehensive, multidisciplinary follow-up after paediatric PE, with attention to functional recovery, mental health, and quality of life.
I am deeply grateful for the invaluable guidance and support of Irene Klaassen throughout this project.
I would also like to thank Eva Rettenbacher, C. Heleen van Ommen, Marije Diender, Idske Hovinga, Anke Jonkmans van der Heide, Marjet Stein, Arjan van der Veer for the pleasant collaboration and participating centres who contributed to this study.”
