Lynne Baird: Why Bleed Control Kits Belong in Every Public Space
Lynne Baird, Assistant at The Daniel Baird Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“On Sunday night, another The Daniel Baird Foundation Control The Bleed kit was used by members of the public to help save a life following a serious incident in Birmingham. Reports indicate that a man was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
We would like to recognise the team at the The Kingfisher Pub, who acted with compassion and community spirit.
The pub has been incredibly proactive in supporting bleed control education and recently welcomed our team to deliver awareness sessions. Their commitment to protecting their local community is clear to see.
When an emergency unfolded nearby, a Daniel Baird Foundation bleed control kit was available and used by those responding before emergency services arrived. The kit will be replaced this week, and we are proud that it was there when it was needed most.
A huge well done to everyone involved.
What is particularly striking is that this is not an isolated incident. In just the past few weeks, bleed control kits have been used multiple times across a range of emergencies.
Time and again, these kits are proving their value by helping people survive catastrophic bleeding until professional help arrives.
This is why we remain so passionate about increasing access to bleed control kits and education.
Every single day we receive enquiries from organisations, businesses, schools, community groups and individuals wanting to install kits and learn these lifesaving skills.
That is also why we find it deeply disappointing that Transport for London continues to refuse to install public-access bleed control kits across its network.
While communities, businesses and organisations across the country are embracing this simple lifesaving intervention, opportunities to protect the public in major transport hubs are still being missed.
The evidence is clear: bleed control kits save lives.
The Daniel Baird Foundation will continue to press Government, policymakers and decision-makers to support the wider rollout of bleed control kits and to ensure bleeding control education becomes a standard part of learning in our schools and communities.
Because when the worst happens, ordinary people equipped with the right kit and the right knowledge can make the difference between life and death.”
