“Emergency Department Scenario
A 35-year-old woman arrived at the Emergency Department complaining of a sudden, severe occipital headache associated with repeated vomiting.
She was drowsy but easily arousable, and her vital signs were stable.
While taking her history, she mentioned that she had her hair washed at a local salon the day before and that she was taking combined oral contraceptive pills.
Although OCP use may initially raise suspicion for cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST), the history of salon hair washing is a classic clue for vertebral artery dissection (‘Beauty Parlour Stroke Syndrome’).
Suspected diagnosis: Vertebral artery dissection.
Best initial investigation: CT Angiography (CTA).”
