Hasan Abbas Zaheer: How the Future of Thalassaemia Management Can be Made More Equitable and Sustainable
Hasan Abbas Zaheer, Member of National Technical Advisory Committee, M/o National Health Services, Advisor at World Health Organization, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I am delighted to share that our Review article, ‘Future-Proofing Thalassemia Care: Harnessing Scalable Therapies, Artificial Intelligence, and Global Collaboration,’ has been accepted for publication in The Lancet Hematology, one of the world’s most prestigious medical journals.
It has been a privilege to contribute as a co-author alongside an outstanding international team of experts in thalassemia care.
The Review examines how the future of thalassaemia management can be made more equitable and sustainable by exploring scalable, affordable, and innovative solutions.
It highlights the potential of repurposed therapies such as hydroxyurea and thalidomide, strategies to expand access to gene therapies, the transformative role of artificial intelligence in diagnosis and patient care, and the importance of global collaboration, multidisciplinary training, and research networks in improving outcomes particularly for patients living in low- and middle-income countries, where the greatest burden of disease exists.
Hopefully this work will contribute to ongoing efforts to make high-quality thalassemia care accessible to all, regardless of where patients live.
My sincere thanks and congratulations to all my co-authors for this remarkable collaborative achievement.”
