Muhammad Shaheer Bin Faheem: 25 Years of Thromboembolism and Hypertension Mortality
Muhammad Shaheer Bin Faheem, RCOP Mentor at Research Council of Pakistan, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis, adding:
“Thrilled to share that our recently published study in the Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis, titled ‘A Growing Mortality Divide: Demographic and Regional Disparities in Thromboembolism with Hypertension, U.S. 1999–2023,‘is now available online.
Using 25 years of CDC WONDER mortality data, we examined how deaths involving both thromboembolism and hypertension have changed across different demographic and geographic groups in the United States.
The findings show a clear and concerning pattern.
Mortality increased substantially over time, with important disparities by sex, race, age, and region. Non-Hispanic African Americans had the highest mortality burden among racial groups, while older adults experienced markedly higher rates than younger populations. Mortality was also higher in nonmetropolitan areas and in the Southern United States.
Overall, 187,872 deaths involving both thromboembolism and hypertension were identified between 1999 and 2023.
These findings highlight the need for more targeted prevention, better recognition of high-risk populations, and more equitable allocation of healthcare resources.”
