Arun V J: Leadership Is a Practice, Not a Position – TRAM Masterclass with Judith Chapman
Arun V J, The Leader of Transfusion Medicine at Malabar Medical College, shared Transfusion Arena Mentorship (TRAM) Leadership Program’s post on LinkedIn:
“Great leaders transcend time and space.
I have never met Judith Chapman, but she has been inspiring and teaching me for years.
Thank you for that wonderful session with the Transfusion Arena Mentorship (TRAM) Leadership Program.
It felt more like a conversation and less like an instruction manual, and we guided ourselves.
It was a pleasure and honor hosting you with Fonkou Steve and Dr Ruchi Punamia”
Transfusion Arena Mentorship (TRAM) Leadership Program shared a post on LinkedIn:
Leadership Is a Practice, Not a Position | TRAM Masterclass with Judith Chapman
What happens when a room full of emerging transfusion leaders is given the opportunity to ask honest questions about their careers and receives practical guidance from someone who has spent years helping shape the global transfusion community?
We found out during our recent Transfusion Arena Mentorship (TRAM) Leadership Program Masterclass with Judith Chapman, pioneer and former Executive Director of International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT).
It was not a conventional lecture. It was an open, interactive and deeply practical conversation. TRAMonians đ brought real career and leadership challenges to the table, and each participant left with a clearer perspective, practical steps, and a way forward.
Four lessons from Judith particularly stood out:
- Know your leadership style.
Leadership begins with understanding yourselfâyour strengths, behaviours and the way you influence others.
- Practice getting feedback intentionally.
Don’t wait for feedback to come to you. Seek it, listen to it, and use it to become better.
- Remain humble and practice humility.
Leadership is not about having all the answers. It is about remaining open to learning, listening and growing.
- Develop your emotional intelligence.
Technical expertise may open doors, but understanding people, relationships and emotions is essential to becoming an effective leader.
And Judith left us with a question that we hope continues to resonate beyond the Masterclass:
‘Who can I encourage in my team this week to take their leadership journey seriously?’
This question beautifully captures what we are trying to build through the TRAM Leadership Program.
We are not simply preparing young professionals to obtain positions.
We are helping them develop the self-awareness, skills, networks and mindset required to lead meaningfully within the transfusion community.
Our sincere gratitude to Judith Chapman for sharing her experience, wisdom and time with the TRAM community.
And to our Tramonians: the Masterclass may be over, but the leadership journey continues.
Now, who will you encourage this week?”
