“We long assumed platelets drive clot retraction – new data suggests otherwise.
A recent study shows red blood cell aggregation inside clots can generate enough mechanical force to shrink a thrombus independently of platelets. If validated in vivo, this finding challenges core assumptions in thrombosis biology and could point to non-platelet therapeutic targets or new imaging/endpoints for clinical trials.”
