Federica Sepe: Are Biomarkers Finally Ready for Precision Stroke Medicine?
Federica Sepe, Neurologist at Bufalini Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Steffen Tiedt et al., published in The Lancet Neurology, adding:
“Are biomarkers finally ready for precision stroke medicine?
A new Lancet Neurology consensus review provides one of the most comprehensive roadmaps for translating stroke biomarkers into clinical practice. Rather than proposing another list of promising candidates, the authors define 17 research priorities and 5 minimum reporting datasets to improve standardization and accelerate clinical implementation.
Three key take-home messages:
- Blood, CSF and imaging biomarkers should be integrated rather than evaluated in isolation.
- Standardized reporting is essential to move from discovery to clinical adoption.
- Future precision stroke care will likely rely on multimodal models combining clinical variables, neuroimaging, AI and biomarkers.
My perspective
The next challenge is no longer identifying new biomarkers, but determining which combinations of biomarkers provide actionable clinical information for diagnosis, prognosis and treatment selection. Integrating artificial intelligence with multimoda.”
