David McIntosh: PPTA Calls for Action on the Global Shortage of Plasma-Derived Medicines
David McIntosh, Founder and Chair at United Plasma Action, shared Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association’s post on LinkedIn:
“Huge thanks and congratulations are due to the PPTA team, the authors and editors for this milestone post, especially to Doctor Hartmann.
In a World where millions die each year because of chronic global shortages of Plasma-Derived Medicines – and where many authorities appear not yet to have woken up to this shameful fact – it is very encouraging to see the premier industry representative organisation speaking up in this way.
Given that 90% of the current global supply of pharmaceutical grade plasma comes to us thanks to the commercial Plasma Industry, their representative is certainly well placed to speak up.
All we need now is for the WHO, the EU and Governments round the World to actually stop, look and listen up – pay due attention to the evidence – and ACT accordingly.
Millions of lives depend upon their doing so…”
Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA) shared a post on LinkedIn:
“A secure supply of source plasma is fundamental to ensuring patients have access to plasma-derived medicines.
The Annals of Blood special series on Source Plasma examines the many factors that shape this critical supply. From collection and donor safety to regulation, manufacturing, pathogen safety, and access, expert papers detail the complex global plasma web.
Julia Fabens, Michelle Fransen, James Knowles, Evelina Kozubovska, Joshua Penrod, Crystal Phillips, Dr. Toby Simon, and Halide Tuna, contributed their expertise to this important, ongoing conversation.
Read the series to explore the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of source plasma.”
