Jakob Werner Hansen: Nordic VEX AZA Trial Reaches an Important Milestone

Jakob Werner Hansen, PhD at Rigshospitalet, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“We have reached an important milestone!

The last patient has now been included in our Nordic VEX AZA trial, where we are investigating azacitidine as a treatment for patients with VEXAS syndrome. The first prospective trial in the world to explore this.

We will present our pre-planned interim analysis in the near future, followed by the full analysis in 2027, when the last patient has been evaluated for the primary endpoint: reduction in UBA1 variant allele frequency.

The study is a truly pan Nordic collaboration, involving centres across Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark with patients included from all four countries. It has been an incredible collaborative effort!
A huge thank you to all the patients participating in the trial, and to all the participating centres, physicians, nurses, monitors, and laboratory teams who have contributed to making this study possible.

Our trial office is small but truly amazing Markus Korsholm Kristensen and Sune Bengtsen Holm Hansen!

The next arm of the study is opening this week!

Thank you to the Danish Cancer Society (Kræftens Bekæmpelse) and the Novo Nordisk Foundation for supporting and enabling this study.

I have many lovely collaborators to thank, without the support it had never been possible money are small in investigator initiated trials but good people makes it possible.

P.S Our Nordic logo was created by the very first patient I enrolled in our trial a personal touch.
