Mengistu Abate Belay: Bridging the Gap in Anemia Prevention During Pregnancy

Mengistu Abate Belay, Director for Tehulederie Health Research Institute at Wollo University, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article, by Zenebe Tefera Ayele et al, published in Wiley Online Library, adding:

“Anemia prevention in pregnancy: bridging the gap

We’re proud to share our latest research, published in Anemia.

The study from Northeast Ethiopia highlights a critical challenge: while just over half of pregnant women know how to prevent anemia (52.1percent), only a similar proportion (53.1percent) actually practice those strategies.

What makes a difference?

Knowledge: higher education (for women and partners), and intended pregnancy

Practice: living in urban areas, higher formal education, prior history of anemia, and strong knowledge of prevention strategies

But gaps remain in nutrition, bed net use, and deworming—areas where targeted interventions could save lives.

For those working in maternal and global health: How do we move from awareness to action? What approaches have worked in your programs?”
