“Advancing the Understanding of Platelet Leukocyte Crosstalk in Cardiovascular Disease
I am pleased to share our latest research, published in Scientific Reports:
‘Platelet NK cell interplay in advanced coronary artery disease is associated with pre-exhausted NK cell dysfunction without upregulation of the immune checkpoint receptor NKG2A.’
This study explores the interplay between platelets, platelet-derived microparticles, and NK cells in patients with advanced coronary artery disease.
Our findings show that increased platelet activation, platelet-derived microparticles, and platelet or PMP NK cell interactions are associated with reduced NK cell frequency, diminished activating receptor expression, and impaired cytotoxic potential.
Notably, these functional alterations occurred without upregulation of NKG2A, supporting a pre-exhausted NK-cell phenotype.
These findings extend the understanding of platelet leukocyte crosstalk beyond hemostasis, highlighting its potential relevance to immune regulation in cardiovascular disease.
