Kerry Taylor-Smith: Cold or Flu? – How to Tell the Difference

Kerry Taylor-Smith, Science writer and editor, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“My youngest son has Ataxia Telangiectasia – it’s a rare, life limiting condition.

As well as poor mobility and coordination, he has a weakened immune system, so coughs and colds and the flu could be pretty nasty for him.

Many children with AT suffer with recurrent infections, but touch wood, we’ve been lucky and he’s never even had a chest infection!

That doesn’t stop us getting the flu vaccination every year to help keep him safe – the eldest has already had his, and mine is booked for a few weeks’ time.

But how do you know if you’ve just got a little sniffle, or if it’s the flu?

Find out in this handy piece I wrote for Patient.”
