Marjolein Smidt: ASH Raises Ferritin Thresholds for Iron Deficiency

“In no uncertain terms, a new directive on iron deficiency has been launched by the American Society of Hematology.
With terms such as ‘most common and most neglected’, more than 70% of cases missed in high risk population, due to limited screening/unambiguous reference values.
What is really good ?
- very clear reference values
- more than 30 general and more than 50 for high risk (think pregnant/menstruation) striking detail: no male-female difference
- very good substantiation
