Can αIIbβ3 Receptor Play a Role in Platelet Production – Glanzmann’s Research Foundation
Glanzmann’s Research Foundation shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Kato Ramaekers et al., published in Blood, adding:
New research is giving us a closer look at what may be happening with platelets in Glanzmann Thrombasthenia.
The study suggests that αIIbβ3, the platelet receptor affected in GT, may play a role not only in platelet function but also in platelet production.
Researchers also identified a potential connection between αIIbβ3, serine metabolism, and platelet formation.
This is early research, not proof that people with GT produce fewer platelets.
More research is needed to understand what these findings mean for people living with GT.
