“Immediately after a major terror attack or war-related incident, what do you think happens to the blood supply?
Does donor scarcity become the first challenge?
Not necessarily.
After 9/11, Americans donated around 500,000 extra units of blood in September and October.
More than 200,000 units eventually had to be discarded.
A powerful reminder that disaster blood preparedness is not simply about collecting more blood.
It is about having the right blood, at the right place, at the right time — backed by a system prepared to manage it.

If there was one message I wanted to leave behind:
Resilience is not built when the crisis begins.
It is built before it — through mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.”
