Platelet Dependent Protection Against Bacterial Pneumonia – JTH
Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (s) shared a post on LinkedIn about recent article adding:
“Non hemostatic platelet dependent protection against murine bacterial pneumonia
In mice challenged with aerosolized Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Streptococcus pneumoniae, thrombocytopenia and aspirin treatment both increased mortality and pulmonary pathogen burden.
Impaired antimicrobial defense appeared at platelet counts still sufficient for hemostasis, with pulmonary hemorrhage only in severe thrombocytopenia, separating the platelet’s innate immune role from its hemostatic one.”
