Suzan Nakasendwa: A Growing Stroke Challenge in Uganda
Suzan Nakasendwa, Doctoral Student at Makerere University School of Public Health, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in PLOS, adding:
“Publication alert.
Our research examining stroke burden in Uganda using national DHIS2 data has been published.
Summary findings
- Stroke cases and deaths have increased over the past years.
- The epidemiological effect was approximately twice the population effect in explaining the rising burden.
- Forecasts project a continued increase in stroke cases and deaths through 2028.
Our findings highlight the urgent need to strengthen stroke prevention, healthcare preparedness, and data-driven decision-making in Uganda.
Grateful to the co-authors, supervisors, and collaborators for their contributions.”
