Danny Hsu: THANZ Makes History With Its First Dedicated HHT Symposium at Blood 2026
Danny Hsu, President of THANZ, Director of Therapeutic Apheresis, Immune and Obstetric Haematology at South Western Sydney Local Health District, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“What an absolutely phenomenal evening in Auckland making THANZ history!
For the very first time, Thrombosis and Haemostasis Society of Australia and New Zealand hosted a dedicated symposium at the Blood 2026 conference, and the energy in the room was electric.
We had a completely full house at Onslow Restaurant, bringing together our dedicated THANZ members with an incredible cross-section of New Zealand colleagues spanning respiratory, interventional radiology, genetics, and ENT.
This milestone event was driven by the sheer vision and dedication of Dr Tom Sapsford and Phil Choi. It was their drive that brought this to fruition, recognizing the urgent need to elevate awareness and multidisciplinary care for Hereditary Haemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) across our region.
A massive thank you to our expert faculty. A special shoutout to Prof. Hanny Al-Samkari for his exceptional presentation on advances in HHT therapeutics and disease modification, perfectly complemented by the deep clinical insights from Phil, Dr. Brendan Buckley, and Dr. John Lee.
We are profoundly grateful to our generous sponsors who made this evening possible. Thank you to the team at MENARINI Group (Jordan Debono and Salvatore Mangiafico) and Diagonal Therapeutics (John Lee, Supriya R.Rao and Mary Hayek). We especially appreciate John and Supriya making the massive trip all the way from Cape Cod to join us!
To my fellow THANZ Council members: thank you for your unwavering support of this symposium and for championing rare disease advocacy. And a big thank you to Sarah Robinson from The Video Box for being our photographer and capturing the magic of the evening!
As President, and simply as a proud THANZ member, seeing this community come together to advance care for our rare disease patients is deeply inspiring.
This is exactly what clinical excellence looks like in action.”
