Ghazal Ahmed: Purpura Fulminans – When Thrombosis Turns Into Necrosis
Ghazal Ahmed, Associate Professor of Dermatology at AIIMS Deoghar, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Purpura Fulminans: When thrombosis leads to skin necrosis.
A dermatological emergency characterized by rapidly progressive retiform purpura, haemorrhagic bullae and skin necrosis, purpura fulminans is an important clinical manifestation of severe coagulopathy, often associated with sepsis and DIC.
Understanding its pathogenesis, clinical evolution, investigations and management is crucial for early recognition and timely intervention.
I’ve covered this topic in detail in my latest teaching video for dermatology residents and medical students.”
