Miguel Hueso: Mechanical Valve Anticoagulation in a Dialysis Patient With Calciphylaxis
Miguel Hueso, Medical Specialist in Nephrology at Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and Aida Valverde-Farre co-authored, published in JACC Journals, adding:
” Vitamin K antagonists remain the standard of care for patients with mechanical heart valves.
However, their use can be particularly challenging and associated with serious complications in patients with complex comorbidities.
We’re happy to share the case of an elderly woman with a mechanical aortic valve who developed calciphylaxis and had a favorable outcome following a switch from acenocoumarol to apixaban.
We recently published the case in JACC and presented it at the SEC Congress.
Read the full case here.
We hope this case will contribute to the discussion on anticoagulation management in challenging clinical situations.”
