Toby Richards: Screening for Iron Deficiency – Nearly 1 in 4 Women Anaemic
Toby Richards, Director of The Iron Clinic, Professor of Surgery at University College London, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Irondeficiency, anaemia screening at GP annual conference in UK.
We set up a stand offering a screening program for heavy periods, iron deficiency and anaemia.
198 women were tested and 48 anaemic !!!
We were advising and supporting GPs on diagnosis and management of iron deficiency as there is very little good information, help or support for women (or GP’s – note their hands are tied in NHS with poor access to blood tests and v difficult constraints for iron infusions).
Huge interest and willingness The Iron Clinic IronLife Shine․”
