Sneha Sarkar: Comparative Safety and Effectiveness Profile of Direct Oral Anticoagulants in AF

Sneha Sarkar, PharmD Intern at ESIC – Employees’ State Insurance Corporation, shared a post on LinkedIn:

I am delighted to share our research article titled ‘Comparative Risk of Major Bleeding, Stroke, and Mortality Among Individual Direct Oral Anticoagulants: A Comparative-Effectiveness Review’.

This review explores the comparative safety and effectiveness of four Direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOACs) – Apixaban, Rivaroxaban, Dabigatran, and Edoxaban – in patients with Atrial Fibrillation (AF).

Key areas explored in this research:

  • Comparative risk of major and clinically relevant bleeding.
  • Stroke and systemic embolism outcomes.
  • All-cause mortality associated with individual DOACs.
  • Evidence synthesis from network meta-analyses and large observational cohort studies.
  • Clinical implications for evidence-based anticoagulant selection.

Key learning: Although DOACs belong to the same therapeutic class, their comparative safety and effectiveness profiles may differ.

Understanding these differences is essential for informed clinical decision-making and individualized patient care.

Being part of this research journey has strengthened my interest in Clinical Research, Pharmacovigilance, Evidence-Based Medicine, and Clinical Data Interpretation.

Grateful for the opportunity to contribute to scientific research and expand my knowledge in the field of clinical pharmacy.”
