Alysha Arif: Understanding a Complex Case of Postpartum Seizures
Alysha Arif, Clinical Intern at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and Community Pharmacy Intern at Dr. Drug Mart, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Behind every clinical case is a human story.
Recently, I presented a case on postpartum seizures associated with suspected Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome with possible Antiphospholipid Syndrome — a condition that may have silently contributed to multiple pregnancy losses before being recognized.
What stayed with me most was not only the complexity of the diagnosis, but the emotional weight carried by a patient who experienced repeated stillbirths and seizures without fully knowing the underlying cause.
The case also highlighted how crucial medication review is in vulnerable patients, where potential drug interactions and contraindications can significantly affect outcomes.
It reminded me that pharmacists are not only involved in dispensing medicines, but in protecting patients through careful clinical assessment, monitoring, and collaboration with the healthcare team.
Experiences like these continue to strengthen my passion for clinical pharmacy and reinforce the importance of compassionate, patient-centered care.”
