Amber Yates: Learning Connecting and Showing Up for Patients at EHA 2026
Amber Yates, Senior Medical Director and Global Medical Affairs Leader at Agios Pharmaceuticals, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“EHA 2026 – Day 1 Fit Check
Day 1 at EHA 2026…
As I was getting ready this morning, I found myself thinking about why I’m here—a responsibility to the patients and families whose stories don’t end when a session does. Every abstract, every data cut, every conversation traces back to someone who is still waiting.
Sitting in sessions, hearing new data—it’s exciting, yes—but it’s also humbling. Because behind every data point is a person who trusted us enough to participate, to hope.
And then there are the people here—the collaborators who you’ve been on countless calls with, solving problems across time zones, and suddenly you’re walking side by side between sessions, picking up conversations like no time has passed.
There’s something really special about being surrounded by people who care just as deeply, who feel the weight of this work the same way you do.
I also felt that quiet spark of curiosity again today—the reminder that no matter how much we know, there is always more to learn. New ideas, new approaches, new ways of thinking that challenge us to do better.
So yes, Day 1 fit check (I am wearing my sickle cell jewelry of course)… but more than that, a moment of gratitude. Being here. Learning. Connected. Showing up for each other, and most importantly, for our patients.”
