Anita Brikman: Advancing Plasma-Derived Therapies in India Through Global Collaboration
Anita Brikman, President and CEO of the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA), shared a post on LinkedIn:
“India is an emerging partner in strengthening the global ecosystem for plasma-derived therapies and transfusion medicine.
That’s why this week, on behalf of the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA), Joshua Penrod and I are joining Ranjeet Ajmani to meet with regulators, public health experts, blood bank leaders, patient advocates, clinicians, and plasma fractionation professionals across the country.
Our first day included an inspiring meeting with Madhur Gupta and her team at World Health Organization India; they’ve committed to a five-year action plan for implementing blood component therapy and safety standards (including for recovered plasma) across India’s 4,500 plus blood banks.
Our meeting with Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, Drugs Controller General of India, was also helpful in understanding the regulatory path of plasma-derived medicines in India.
Another influential regulatory force is the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC); major updates initiated this year align the IPC’s blood product quality and safety monographs to align with international best practice — a critical step forward in the region.
Thank you to M Kalaivani for hosting PPTA.
Collaboration across borders is how we ensure patients everywhere benefit from the life-enabling power of plasma.
Grateful to the many partners across India who are welcoming us and helping move this important work forward.
I look forward to sharing more as our journey continues.”
