Anita Zaidi: Why Only 2% of Health Research and Development Goes to Women’s Conditions

Anita Zaidi, President of Gates Foundation, shared Pivotal’s post on LinkedIn:

“Data is one of the most powerful tools we have, and yet, it’s still largely missing from women’s health work.

Less than 2% of health research and development dollars go to conditions that only affect women, and clinical trials rarely study sex or gender differences in their results.

Few have done more to help close that gap than Melinda French Gates.

Over the last decade, she’s committed millions of dollars to women’s health research, and her work through Pivotal continues to move the needle.”

Pivotal shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Women account for 80% of autoimmune diseases.

Being a woman doubles your risk of dementia.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for women worldwide.

Despite the outsized impact of these conditions, there’s still so much we don’t know about them due to decades of underinvestment in women’s health.

These stats from Wellcome Leap show why closing the women’s health gap is ‘a moral and economic imperative.'”
