Charlotte Guzzo: MHRA Approves Gene Editing for Younger Children
Charlotte Guzzo, Co-Founder and COO at Sano Genetics, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“MHRA approves gene-editing treatment for children aged five and over with serious inherited blood disorders
Paediatric gene editing in the UK is now as much an operational question as a regulatory one. The MHRA has extended Casgevy’s licence to children aged five and over with severe sickle cell disease or transfusion-dependent beta thalassaemia, down from 12.
Each child’s own stem cells are edited outside the body and conditioning comes first, and planning that around a five-year-old falls to treatment centres and parents.”
