Edina Cenko: AZURE-HeFH Highlights the LDL-C Treatment Gap in HeFH
Edina Cenko, Past-Chairperson ESC Working Group on Coronary Pathophysiology and Microcirculation at European Society of Cardiology, shared on LinkedIn:
“Presented by Erik Stroes at ESC Congress 2026, baseline cohort data from the Phase 3 AZURE-HeFH trial evaluating the novel oral PCSK9 inhibitor laroprovstat vs placebo.
Lifelong cumulative exposure makes aggressive LDL-C lowering essential in HeFH—yet less than 25% hit guideline targets on conventional oral LLT.
- N is 472 genetically or clinically confirmed HeFH participants
- Approximately 21% with prior ASCVD
- 94% on statins (more than 80% high-intensity) and 73.1% on ezetimibe
- Mean baseline LDL-C: 2.95 mmol/L despite intensive combination background therapy
These findings underline the profound implementation gap in HeFH.
Looking forward to primary 12-week and 52-week safety or efficacy outcomes.”
