Elizabeth Clift: Pride Month Through the Lens of Haemophilia
Elizabeth Clift, Senior Software Engineer at Blue Light Card, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“It’s Pride Month, and The Haemophilia Society (the UK charity for people affected by bleeding disorders, which I am one of with severe Haemophilia A) are running their first ever pride campaign this year!
This is an overlap of two very important and personal things to me of which there’s previously never been any visibility of the two together.
I feel very lucky that they asked to interview me for this last month, and you can now read the interview in the link below.
I’d also just like to take this as an opportunity to thank everyone in my network that supports me, I’m privileged to have been able to come out and still continue my career and work with so many compassionate people.
It’s only because of my career I’ve been able to access crucial gender-affirming care that would otherwise have been financially and medically unaccessible.
Realistic estimates for wait times of being seen by gender identity clinics are many years long and the cost of going private is in the tens of thousands of pounds.
It’s worth remembering this Pride Month that many others do not have the same privilege and support.
Trans people face arguably an increasing amount of barriers and systemic discrimination in the UK and if you want to be an ally you still need to commit to treating all trans people with respect and providing equal opportunities to succeed.”
