Fabrice Cognasse: Celebrating the Next Generation of Platelet Research and Transfusion Medicine

Fabrice Cognasse, Director of Research – Scientific Director at The EFS in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and INSERM, shared a post on LinkedIn:

”AABB 2026 in Atlanta has come to an end!

After attending more than ten AABB meetings over the years, what stood out to me this time was not just the excellent science, but above all, the people behind it. It was truly inspiring to see a new generation of talented researchers making their mark in a field I have been passionate about for so long: platelet physiology and transfusion medicine.

A special mention to Susan Shea, Tamar Feldman, Ben Wood, and Kimberly Thomas.

Your scientific excellence, enthusiasm, curiosity, and energy are a real source of inspiration! Congratulations also to your institutions — University of Pittsburgh, American Red Cross, Australian Red Cross Lifeblood, and Vitalant Research Institute — and to your mentors for recognizing and supporting such promising talents.

After so many years in platelet research, seeing this new generation thrive reminds me why I love what we do. Thank you to everyone I met in Atlanta. You are what makes me want to return to AABB next year, share our work at EFS, Campus Santé – Jean Monnet University and Health, Engineering and Biology Saint-Étienne (SAINBIOSE), and keep learning from one another. Hope to see you all in Anaheim for AABB 2027 or before․”
