Jose Rubio: Advancing Lupus Care Through Community and Partnership

Jose Rubio, Assistant Professor at University of Alabama at Birmingham, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Great event and even better community.

Today in Birmingham, Alabama, we had a highly successful Lupus and You empowerment session, bringing together nearly 40 patients, family members, spouses, children, community providers, advocates, and partners for an honest conversation about lupus, care, advocacy, and hope.

A special thank you to the Lupus Foundation of America and the Alabama Chapter for bringing this community together, and to Novartis for sponsoring this important event.

I was especially grateful to share the space with patients and families, and with community providers like my good friend Elizabeth Perkins, who continue to show what patient-centered care looks like beyond the clinic walls.

Events like this remind me that advancing lupus care is not only about medications or clinical trials. It is about trust, education, access, community, and making sure patients and families feel seen and supported.

This was a huge success, and I am excited to continue working together to build a stronger lupus community in Alabama — one that advances both care and science.

  • Community
  • Science
  • Partnership
  • Better lupus care for all.”
