Kato Ramaekers: Redefining Integrin αIIbβ3 in Platelet Formation
Kato Ramaekers, PHD Student at Center for Molecular and Vascular Biology, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Blood, adding:
“Thrilled to share that my latest work just got published in Blood.
We challenged the traditional view of integrin αIIbβ3 as solely an aggregation receptor. Our data shows it plays a quantitative role in platelet formation, with both deficiency and hyperactivity leading to reduced output. We found a novel connection between platelet formation and serine metabolism in megakaryocytes.
