Krishnakant Prasad: Hemodynamic Stress and Arterial Wall Integrity in Aneurysm Formation
Krishnakant Prasad, Head of Mathematics Department at Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“What happens when an artery wall silently weakens and suddenly fails?
An aneurysm is a dangerous dilation of an artery caused by gradual weakening of its wall.
Most of the time, it develops quietly without any symptoms until the risk becomes critical.
The arterial wall normally has three strong layers, but factors like high blood pressure, smoking, or atherosclerosis weaken this structure.
As pressure builds, the wall starts bulging outward like a balloon.
Over time, this bulge becomes fragile.
If the wall can no longer withstand the pressure, it can rupture, leading to severe internal bleeding.
In the brain, this can cause a life threatening hemorrhagic stroke.
In the aorta, rupture can be rapidly fatal.
The most concerning part is that many aneurysms are discovered only after rupture.
Small weakness, constant pressure, and time can turn into a catastrophic failure.
Understanding this progression is the key to prevention.”
