Maria Fredin Grupper: Privilege to Represent WSO at the Coalition for Access to NCD Medicines and Products
Maria Fredin Grupper, Executive Director at World Stroke Organization, shared on LinkedIn:
”From Commitment to impact: Scaling Access to NCD Medicines and Products
It was a privilege to represent the World Stroke Organization at the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Coalition for Access to NCD Medicines and Products in Nairobi last week.
Bringing together ministerial representatives from seven African countries, people with lived experience, civil society, regional organizations, academia, and the private sector, the meeting was a powerful reminder of what is possible when diverse partners unite around a common goal.
The discussions focused on progress since the Fourth UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs HLM4 and, more importantly, on what it will take to accelerate action.
The message was unequivocal: achieving SDG 3.4 and UHC will require sustained investment, stronger health systems, resilient supply chains, and equitable access to essential NCD medicines, products, and services through primary health care.
Countries shared tangible examples of how political commitment is being translated into action.
These experiences demonstrate that solutions exist—and that meaningful change is achievable.
The greatest lesson from the meeting was simple: no country can do this alone.
By sharing experiences, learning from one another, and working across sectors and borders, we can move beyond commitments and deliver real impact for the millions of people living with NCDs.
I was especially encouraged to see stroke receiving greater recognition within national NCD strategies.
Stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, and ensuring equitable access to prevention, acute care, rehabilitation, and long-term support must remain a global priority.
The challenge ahead is not whether we know what works—it is whether we have the collective determination to scale it!”
