Mary Akua Ampomah: Academic Institutions Stand in Solidarity to End Stigma on World Inherited Blood Disorders Day

Mary Akua Ampomah, Lecturer at University of Health and Allied Sciences, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Together, We Can End Stigma and Build a More Supportive World for People Living with Inherited Blood Disorders!

On 18th October 2026, World Inherited Blood Disorders Day, we stood together in solidarity with individuals and families affected by inherited blood disorders (IBDs).

These pictures capture a powerful message of hope, unity and commitment as students, university staff and passionate advocates pledged their alliance and support for the inherited blood disorders community.

People living with sickle cell disease, thalassaemia, haemophilia and other inherited blood disorders deserve more than awareness. They deserve acceptance, dignity, equitable access to healthcare, psychosocial support and opportunities to live fulfilling lives.

Inherited blood disorders should never be a reason for stigma, discrimination or social exclusion.

Our collective responsibility as an academic institution is to replace stigma with understanding, discrimination with inclusion, and silence with advocacy.

Together, let’s raise awareness, stop stigmatisation and support individuals and families affected by inherited blood disorders to live healthier, better and more fulfilling lives.

Our pledge must go beyond words. Let’s turn solidarity into meaningful action! Join GANSID to make this a reality.

Let’s take advantage of academic institutions platform to support IBDs advocacy”
