Mona Alfaraj: Advancing Care in Inherited Platelet Disorders at 2nd International Hematology and Hemostasis Conference

“Being a member of the scientific committee at the 2nd International Hematology and Hemostasis Conference is an experience that carries a deep sense of honor, responsibility, and intellectual excitement.
It reflects not only recognition of one’s professional journey but also an opportunity to actively shape the scientific dialogue within a specialized and rapidly evolving field.
As a speaker, presenting on inherited macrothrombocytopenia brings a unique sense of purpose.
This group of rare heterogeneous platelet disorders, often underdiagnosed or misinterpreted, represents a critical intersection between clinical hematology and diagnostic hematology with genetic medicine.
Sharing insights on their pathophysiology, underlying genetic defects, diagnostic challenges, laboratory tools, and appropriate family management plan with avoiding mistreatment feels like contributing to a broader effort to improve patient’s experience outcomes and highlights the importance of genetic/molecular studies endpoint in the hemostasis pathway.
There is also a certain anticipation in engaging with local, regional and international experts – knowing that the discussion may spark new ideas, collaborations, or even challenge existing.
Ultimately, participating in this dual capacity transforms the conference from a passive event into an active, meaningful journey – one where knowledge is not only shared but also shaped, and where professional growth is intertwined with advancing patient care.
