Nishith Patel: PhD or Masters Opportunity in Aortic Disease Research at the University of Auckland
Nishith Patel, Associate Professor of Surgery at Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, University of Auckland, Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Waikato District Health Board, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“PhD or Masters Opportunity – Predictive biomechanics for aortic dissection prevention (Auckland, NZ)
We are excited to advertise a PhD or Masters project based at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute, University of Auckland focused on advancing our understanding of aortic disease through cutting-edge imaging, biomechanics, and data science.
This project sits at the intersection of clinical surgery and bioengineering, bringing together a truly transdisciplinary team of academic clinicians and bioengineers.
The goal is to develop novel approaches to better predict and understand aortic events—moving the field towards earlier intervention and improved patient outcomes.
Who we are looking for:
- Highly motivated PhD or Masters candidate
- Background in Biomedical Engineering, Biomechanics, Medical Imaging, or Medicine.
- Interest in medical imaging, computational modelling, or cardiovascular science
- Enthusiastic about working across disciplines and translating research into real-world impact
This is a unique opportunity to work within a leading research environment and contribute to a programme aiming to transform outcomes in aortic disease.
Funding: This project is funded through a Heart Foundation Project Grant.
The student will be funded through a University of Auckland scholarship subject to eligibility criteria and funding availability.”
Gareth Owens, Vice President Program Management at Finastra, shared this post on LinkedIn:
“Back in the day when I was a Medical Physicist, I would have jumped at the chance to work in NZ with Nishith Patel on this Masters or PhD project.
If you are or know a twenty- or thirty-something year old version of me with an interest in biomechanics and the aorta, take a look.”
